Overview
Stock Transfer / Transfer Posting is used to move material from one storage location to another, from one plant to another, or to change stock type (e.g., Unrestricted ↔ Quality ↔ Blocked) within the same plant.
Prerequisites
- Material exists in both issuing and receiving storage locations/plants
- Sufficient stock is available in the issuing location
- Authorization for transaction MIGO
Common Types of Transfer Posting

Step-by-Step Process (Example: Storage Location to Storage Location – 311)

Enter Transaction Code
Go to transaction MIGO and press Enter.

Select Action and Movement Type
- Action: Select A08 – Transfer Posting
- Reference: Select R10 – Others (or leave blank)
- Enter Movement Type 311
- Press Enter

Enter Material and Quantity
- Enter the Material number
- Enter the Quantity to be transferred
- Enter the Plant

Enter From and To Locations
- From: Enter the issuing Storage Location
- To: Enter the receiving Storage Location
- Enter Batch if the material is batch-managed

Post the Transfer
Click the Post button. The system creates a Material Document and moves the stock from one storage location to another instantly.

- In MIGO select Transfer Posting
- Movement Type 301
- Enter Material, Quantity
- Enter From Plant + Storage Location
- Enter To Plant + Storage Location
- Post
Stock is reduced in the issuing plant and increased in the receiving plant in one step.

Important Notes:
- Movement Type 311 is the most frequently used for storage location transfers within the same plant.
- For inter-plant transfers with delivery and billing, use Stock Transport Order (STO) instead of simple transfer posting.
- Transfer posting does not create any accounting document if both locations belong to the same valuation area (same plant).
- Plant-to-plant transfer (301) usually creates accounting entries.
Helpful Tips
- Always check stock in MMBE before and after the transfer.
- You can enter multiple materials in one MIGO document.
- For batch-managed materials, the same batch is transferred (or you can split).
- Use Movement Type 321 after Quality Usage Decision to move stock from QI to Unrestricted.
- To reverse a transfer, use the reverse movement type (e.g., 312 for 311) or cancel the material document.
