Overview
A Sampling Procedure defines how samples are to be drawn for quality inspection (e.g., fixed sample size, percentage sampling, sampling scheme according to ISO standards, etc.). It is later assigned to Inspection Characteristics in the Inspection Plan.
Prerequisites
- Authorization for QM master data transactions
- Sampling Scheme already created (if using sampling scheme based procedure) – Transaction QDP1
- Understanding of required sampling method (Fixed, Percentage, Sampling Scheme, etc.)
Step-by-Step Process

Enter Transaction Code
Go to transaction QDV1 (Create Sampling Procedure) and press Enter.

Enter Sampling Procedure Data
- Sampling Procedure: Enter a unique name/code (e.g., FIXED10, PERCENT5, ISO2859)
- Plant: Enter the plant (or leave blank for client-level)
- Press Enter

Maintain Header Details
- Description: Enter a clear description (e.g., “Fixed Sample of 10 Units”)
- Sampling Type: Select the appropriate type:
- Fixed Sample – Constant sample size
- Percentage Sample – Sample size as % of lot size
- Sampling Scheme – Uses a predefined sampling scheme (ISO / AQL based)
- 100% Inspection – Inspect entire lot
- Valuation Mode: Usually “Attributive inspection nonconf. units” or “Variable inspection”

Maintain Sampling Parameters
Depending on the Sampling Type selected:
- Fixed Sample: Enter the Sample Size (e.g., 5, 10, 20)
- Percentage Sample: Enter the Percentage (e.g., 5% or 10%)
- Sampling Scheme: Assign the previously created Sampling Scheme and select Inspection Severity / AQL

Additional Settings (Optional)
- Without special parameters (simple fixed/percentage)
- With inspection points (for in-process inspections)
- Multiple samples / confirmation required
- Sample drawing procedure assignment (if using physical sample management)

Save the Sampling Procedure
Click the Save button. The Sampling Procedure is now created and can be assigned to Inspection Characteristics in the Inspection Plan (QP01 / QP02).

Common Sampling Types

Note: After creating the Sampling Procedure, you must assign it to the Inspection Characteristic in the Inspection Plan (QP01/QP02) under the “Sampling Procedure” field of the characteristic. Only then will the system calculate the sample size automatically when an Inspection Lot is created.
Helpful Tips
- Use a clear naming convention (e.g., FIX-5, FIX-10, PERC-5, AQL-1.5).
- For most incoming inspections, a Fixed Sample is sufficient and easy to maintain.
- If you need AQL-based acceptance sampling, first create a Sampling Scheme in QDP1 and then use it in the Sampling Procedure.
- You can assign different Sampling Procedures to different characteristics within the same Inspection Plan.
- Test the setup by creating an Inspection Lot and checking the calculated sample size in the lot.
